ADDIS ABABA, — The Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD), an eight-nation Horn of Africa grouping, has organized a workshop here this week to validate stuided which have been completed regardign the establishment of a one-stop border post (OSBP) on the Sudan-Ethiopia border.
According to IGAD, the OSBP is intended to facilitate and ease trade and movement of people and goods between the two countries. It will also serve as a pilot project towards the establishment of OSBPs in other parts of the IGAD region.
An IGAD statement issued here Tuesday said that once it is established, the OSBP will play a pivotal role in enhancing regional trade and integration and hence providing immense socio-economic development.
The studies are funded through a grant from the government of Sweden, it was indicated
Participants of the workshop included transportation, trade and Customs experts from Sudan and Ethiopia, the private sector, representatives from the Embassy of Sweden in Ethiopia, and IGAD infrastructure officials from the Economic Co-operation and Social Development Division of the IGAD Secretariat.
