The ministry said an official announcement will be made once the implementation procedures of the decision are put in place. After that, the UAE citizens would be able to travel to the Schengen Area countries without visas.
It added that the citizens will be notified through the media when the decision goes into effect.
The EP voting came during a session held yesterday in Strasbourg with a majority vote of 523 out of 577 EU representatives.
The Foreign Ministry indicated that the EU’s endorsement of the visa waiver status for UAE citizens traveling to Schengen Area culimantes the crucial legislative stage which will be followed by setting up of a mechanism to implement the decision.
“We look forward to commencing the technical talks between the European Commission and the relevant UAE authorities in order to finalise the bilateral Visa Waiver Agreement between the EU and the UAE,” said Sulaiman Al Mazrouei, UAE’s Ambassador to Belgium and Permanent Representative to the European Union.
Al Mazrouei expressed appreciation to the efforts and cooperation shown by the European Union. He also commended the vital role and support of the UAE Friends group within the Union.
