ADDIS ABABA, May 8 (NNN-ENA) — Ethiopia is working with the United Nations (UN) and other international organizations to find a durable resolution to the conflict in South Sudan, says Foreign Minister Workneh Gebeyehu/
The Sudan Tribune newspaper quotes Workneh as saying this after he held discussions with Nicholas Haysom, the UN Special Envoy to Sudan and South Sudan here last week.
The two sides discussed the current situation in South Sudan and ways to resolve the crisis. They also discussed issues of regional peace and security and agreed to work together to make sure peace and security in South Sudan as well as in the volatile East African sub-region at large.
Workneh emphasized the importance of an inclusive peace process, including the various warring parties in South Sudan in order to achieve lasting peace in the world’s newest nation.
He further stressed the need for the UN, the African Union (AU) and the Inter-Governmental Authority in Development (IGAD) to make combined efforts to end the violence in South Sudan.
Haysom commended Ethiopia’s efforts for regional peace and security and vowed to closely work with Ethiopia and provide the needed support to ensure peace and security in South Sudan and the region as a whole. — NNN-ENA
