Iravani: US occupation presence in Syria is a main source of growing terrorism

New York, Iran’s ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Amir-Saeed Iravani said that the illegitimate presence of the US occupation forces in Syria contributed greatly to providing a favorable environment for feeding terrorist organizations inside Syria and the region.

Speaking at the UN Security Council session on the middle East Monday, Iravani said that after 12 years of crisis in Syria, terrorism remains a threat to Syria and the region.

The Iranian diplomat stressed countering terrorism must be conducted in full respect of Syria’s integrity and territorial integrity.

He added that the US is seeking to escalate tension through its evident support for the Israeli occupation at the expense of the innocent Palestinians’ lives.

Iravani said that the unlimited support of the US for the Israeli occupation has formed part of the challenge the international community is facing in the current situation of the Gaza Strip.
