RIIFS organizes conference on non-Muslims contributions to Islamic civilization

Amman: The Royal Institute for Interfaith Studies (RIIFS) and the French Institute for the Near East (IFPO), in cooperation with the French Embassy in Amman, organized a conference on the contributions of non-Muslims to Islamic civilization.

The conference was attended by a number of researchers and academics, including historians, philosophers, and specialists in Islamic studies from different universities and countries. They discussed 12 research papers on the topic of the conference.

The papers included topics that highlighted the contributions of non-Muslims to Islamic civilization, given that the history of Islamic civilization is not limited to the intellectual productions of Muslims alone. Islamic civilization and culture are considered the result of long processes of exchange in which non-Muslims played an important role in various fields and contributed to its enrichment in an effective way.

The papers also focused on the contributions of non-Muslims in the different cognitive fields of thought, c
ulture, science, medicine, beliefs, philosophy, art, and law.

The conference recommended the need to focus on the study of manuscripts and training researchers in universities to work in this rich field through partnerships with universities and research institutions specializing in this field. It also recommended the inclusion of the contributions of non-Muslims to Islamic civilization in educational curricula to raise awareness among young people about this topic, which would contribute to promoting citizenship, pluralism, and acceptance of others.

The conference also called for the continuation of organizing such intellectual gatherings and cooperation with a larger number of researchers and universities from outside Jordan.

MIKE POMPEO VISITS ‘ISRAEL’ IN A CHOREOGRAPHY OF SOLIDARITY

Former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo visited “Israel” on a tour of areas that had been at the center of Operation Al-Aqsa Flood on October 7, in a show of “unwavering support” for the occupation and its brutal aggression.

The visit was encouraged by Israeli businessman Yossi Sagol, who said the extension of a visit by the Pompeos symbolizes their determination and special regard for the occupation.

“We sincerely appreciate the unwavering support of Secretary Pompeo and Susan during these challenging times.’

A BIZARRE EXPRESSION OF GRIEF

Pompeo and his wife made several stops around the occupied territories and met with Israeli occupation soldiers and settlers to pay their tributes.

During the visit, Pompeo expressed the “heartbreaking” front he witnessed on his tour, saying, ‘What happened on October 7 was so shocking and so sadistic that the trauma is felt constantly, everywhere by everyone. And yet, their resilience is truly inspiring. Every Israeli continues to sacrifice and give so much to help t
heir countrymen and defend their nation.”

Pompeo addressed the captives issue, stressing they need to be returned from Gaza.

“Israel” had earlier rejected Hamas’ proposal for an agreement that ensured the safe exchange of prisoners and captives, abandoning Israeli captives and putting them at maximum risk of death due to the occupation’s intense bombing in Gaza.

He also reiterated his indefinite support for “Israel”, despite the massacres it has been committing across Gaza and the crimes it perpetrated in the West Bank.

Pompeo and several IOF soldiers partook in a celebratory dance, while the occupation carried out more raids on Gaza.

Cabinet allocates additional funds to JFA, grants textbook waiver for UNRWA

Amman: In a session chaired by Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh, the Cabinet on Wednesday allocated

an extra JD500,000 in support to the Jordan Football Association (JFA).

This financial injection supplements the JD1 million previously earmarked and disbursed to the association last Thursday. The move reflects the government’s commitment to bolstering sports, particularly in the wake of the national football team’s historic achievement of securing the silver medal in the Asian Cup.

Furthermore, the Cabinet granted a waiver of over JD4 million in textbook costs for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) for the years spanning 2019 to 2023. This decision underscores Jordan’s ongoing support for UNRWA’s essential humanitarian mission in providing education to Palestinian refugees.

Last month, in line with directives from His Majesty King Abdullah II, the Cabinet allocated JD3 million to bolster the budget of UNRWA, recognizing the agency’s crucial role in su
pporting Palestinian refugees amidst challenging financial circumstances.
