CAMPAIGN TO ATTRACT TOURISTS DURING OFF-PEAK SEASON

MUSCAT: The Ministry of Tourism (MoT) will be launching a campaign on Thursday under which more than 30 hotels will be offering discounted rates.

The three-day campaign will be kickstarted at Muscat City Centre by H E Ahmed bin Nasser bin Hamad al Mehrzi, Minister of Tourism, along with H E Maitha al Mahrouqi, Undersecretary in MoT.

According to Vijay Handa, cluster manager, Masirah Island Resort and Ras al Jinz Turtle Reserve, interested people can make bookings at rock bottom prices. “Discount coupons will be given on hotel bookings. The offers will be valid till September,” he said.

A ministry statement said, “The campaign comes in cooperation with the Omani tourism enterprises to promote domestic tourism in the summer season in the sultanate by offering special offers to citizens and residents.”

It added that more than 30 tourist facilities from different governorates are part of the campaign. They include three to five star hotels and hotel apartments offering special discounted rates along with free room nights and free meals. Oman Air is also offering special rates.

“Individually, hotels used to offer special summer and Ramadan offers but this time we have decided to start a market-driven initiative where a range of hotels have come together. This will help attract local tourists and tide over the low season, when most foreign tourists skip travelling to Oman,” said an official at the ministry.

Some of the hotels participating in the campaign include Grand Hyatt Muscat, The Chedi Muscat, Shangri-La’s Bar al Jissah Resort and Spa, Al Bustan Palace, a Ritz-Carlton Hotel, Crowne Plaza Muscat, Sohar, Duqm and Salalah, Jebel Shams Resort, The View, Six Senses Zighy Bay, InterContinental Muscat, Atana Hotels, Alila Jabal Akhdar, Salalah Rotana, Mariott Resort Salalah, and Hilton Salalah Resort among others.
