BANKDHOFAR PARTICIPATES IN CONFERENCE ON ECOMMERCE, ERATIFICATION IN SALALAH

MUSCAT: BankDhofar, one of the leading banks in Oman and a pioneer in utilising the latest technological solutions, took part in a two-day international conference on e-commerce and e-ratification in Salalah recently.

The event was organised in coordination with the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Dhofar.

The event was held on September 21 and 22 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Salalah, and was attended by specialists and experts in the field of electronic certification from the GCC countries. H E Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Salim al Futaisi, Minister of Transport and Communications was the guest of honour at the conference which was attended by Sheikh Abdullah bin Saif al Mahrouqi, deputy governor of Dhofar, and a number of high-ranking officials in the governorate.

The event served as an initiative to draw attention to the obligations and responsibilities to support e-commerce and electronic certification in Oman. The conference agenda also focused on specialised e-certification techniques and its role in the fight against cybercrimes, with special focus on its application in the Omani law for combating cybercrimes. The event also aimed to ascertain international and regional experience in the field of electronic certification.

Given BankDhofar is the first bank in Oman to use mobile Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) services, the bank recently signed an agreement with the Information Technology Authority (ITA) to use the ITA’s mobile PKI technology and service.

Abdul Hakeem al Ojaili, acting CEO of BankDhofar, gave a presentation on the bank’s role in offering services based on PKI infrastructure with ITA’s security support, for online banking services. The presentation focused on traditional risks associated with banking activities and chalked out steps to ensure legal protection of customers and users of electronic banking. The introduction of mobile PKI aims to enhance the security of customers, particularly if they are frequent users of the internet banking facility.

BankDhofar also offers special services to track the location of ATM machine using GPS technology and the internet via their mobile banking application. The GPS locator function helps customers to find the nearest ATM in no time, no matter where they are.
