MUSCAT: Bank Muscat has announced that it will significantly enhance support to its Green Sports initiative, currently in its third year.

The initiative, launched by the bank in coordination with the Ministry of Sports Affairs in 2012, focuses on strengthening sports infrastructure in general and greening football grounds in particular.

Bank Muscat announced the Green Sports initiative’s beneficiary teams and clubs for 2014 in an event held on Monday at its headquarters.

The event was held under the auspices of H E Mohammed bin Salim bin Said al Toobi, Minister of Environment and Climate Affairs, in the presence of AbdulRazak Ali Issa, chief executive, Bank Muscat.

Under the initiative, Bank Muscat will lay turf grass and hand over the fields to beneficiary clubs or teams. Congratulating Bank Muscat for the immense success of the initiative, H E Toobi said, “The Green Sports initiative complements government efforts in building a sporting nation by providing the youth the required infrastructure facilities. The initiative benefiting communities, especially the youth, also contributes to sustainable development and protection of the environment.”

Issa said, “Bank Muscat is proud to enhance support for the Green Sports initiative as part of its CSR strategy to further strengthen its leadership role in social responsibility and facilitate partnership between the government and the private sectors for sustainable development and progress of Oman, inspired by the directive of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said to activate the role of the private sector in social responsibility and development of Omani society.”

In his welcome address, Salim al Kaabi, deputy general manager – human resources, Bank Muscat said, “The Green Sports initiative reiterates the bank’s support to Oman’s youth who represent the future of Oman. True to its commitment to supporting varied sporting activities in the country, Bank Muscat remains at the forefront in offering the required encouragement to youth.”
