Bahrain participates in MESA meeting in Washington

Washington: Foreign Affairs Ministry’s Undersecretary for International Affairs, Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, headed Bahrain’s delegation to the meeting of the “Strategic Alliance for the Middle East” (MESA) held in Washington Thursday.

Dr. Shaikh Abdullah stressed the importance of MESA as a vital and effective mechanism, to enhance security and prosperity in the region.

He said the successive meetings of the Alliance stand for a proof of MESA serious desire to achieve its objectives, in the light of the proposed future visions of all security, investment, economic and energy dimensions.

The undersecretary praised the historical Bahraini-US friendship relations and their steady progress in various fields, hailing the laudable efforts of the friendly US government to consolidate the foundations of security and stability at the regional and international levels.

Dr. Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed noted that Bahrain looks forward to building a comprehensive strategic and institutional framework within clear and effective visions and partnerships. This is, he said, in order to face the security threats and challenges, especially in light of the recent terrorist attacks in the region, which posed a threat to the safety of international navigation, global energy and security besides their highly serious strategic and geopolitical implications.

He affirmed the Kingdom’s determination as an active partner in combating terrorism in all its forms and working on drying up its funding sources to ensure maritime and energy security.

The undersecretary pointed out in this regard, to Bahrain’s recent hosting of the International Conference on Maritime Security, with the participation of more than 60 countries, and the launch of the International Alliance for the Safety and protection of maritime navigation to ensure the safety of sea corridors.”

Dr. Shaikh Abdullah said that Bahrain, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, is achieving a fast-paced comprehensive and sustainable awakening within the rule of law.

The Kingdom is keeping pace with the digital economy, empowering all groups, and promoting a safe and protective environment to protect achievements, he said, adding that Bahrain views the Middle East Strategic Alliance as a pioneering broad security and economic partnership.

He stressed that the challenges facing the Middle East require a collective rapid response, noting that Bahrain is open to all partnerships that observe international conventions and laws and aims at the welfare and peace of the peoples of the region and the world.
