University of Jordan advances globally in QS subject rankings

Amman: The University of Jordan (UJ) achieved an “advanced” global ranking according to the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2024.

The university obtained “cutting-edge” positions across the five broad subject areas and in 18 precise specializations, a UJ statement said on Sunday.

According to the new rankings, the university “successfully” achieved “unprecedented” results in a number of specializations, primarily medicine, nursing, pharmacy, computer science, information systems, engineering, mathematics, business, languages, tourism, and library and information science.

At the level of scientific areas, the university ranked 347th globally in arts and humanities, against its 451-500 ranking in 2023, and 227th in social and management sciences, jumping from the last year’s 270th ranking, the statement said.

The university also ranked 253 in engineering and technology, ahead of its 260 position held in 2023, jumped to the 401-450 slot in life sciences and medicine, compared to its 451-500 status in
2023, and ranked 501-550 in natural sciences, which failed to join its lists globally in 2023.

UJ President, Dr. Nazir Obeidat, expressed pride in this progress in the university’s “prestigious” world rankings, which reflect its efforts in achieving its vision to advance at the international level, achieve leadership in education and scientific research and provide a “stimulating and appropriate” educational environment.

IRAN AT UN: FURTHER ISRAELI MISTAKES TO LEAD TO MORE SEVERE RESPONSE

Iran’s Mission to the United Nations said that in the ongoing confrontations between Iran and “Israel”, the United States “must stay away.”

In a post on X, the mission said that the wide-ranging attack launched by the country was in response to “Israel’s” aggression against Iran’s diplomatic premises in Damascus.

It said that the matter “can be deemed concluded.”

Should the Israeli regime “make another mistake,” Iran’s response will be considerably more severe, the mission added.

“Conducted on the strength of Article 51 of the UN Charter pertaining to legitimate defense, Iran’s military action was in response to the Zionist regime’s aggression against our diplomatic premises.” the mission stated.

“The U.S. MUST STAY AWAY!” it added.

UNSC fails to prevent regional escalation

Earlier on Thursday, Iran’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations underlined the necessity of Tehran responding to the Israeli airstrike on its consulate in Damascus, which martyred seven Iranian military advisors, including Briga
dier General martyr Mohammad Reza Zahedi, the leader of the IRGC’s Quds Force in Syria and Lebanon.

Iran’s diplomats stressed that if it were not for the impunity enjoyed by the Israeli occupation in the UN Security Council, and if the perpetrators of the attack on Iran’s consulate in Syria were brought to justice, the Islamic Republic would not have found it necessary to retaliate against the Israeli occupation.

“Had the UN Security Council condemned the Zionist regime’s reprehensible act of aggression on our diplomatic premises in Damascus and subsequently brought to justice its perpetrators, the imperative for Iran to punish this rogue regime might have been obviated,” the mission said in a brief statement.

IRGC launches promised attack on “Israel”

Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) Aerospace Force announced that it targeted Israeli positions in occupied Palestine with dozens of drones and missiles, as part of the retaliatory response to the malicious Israeli crime against the Iranian embassy
in Syria.

The IRGC’s Aerospace Force announced that the operation dubbed “Truthful Promise” was launched in the context of “punishing the criminal Zionist regime.”

The force said that the operation came “in response to the numerous evil crimes of the Zionist regime,” including the attack on the embassy. It said that its forces, supported by other units of the Iranian Armed Forces, launched the “wide-ranging” military operation.

The statement added that the operation was conducted with the approval of the Supreme National Security Council and under the supervision of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, with the support of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the backing of the Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces.

“Details of this operation will soon draw the attention of the heroic Iranian people and the free peoples of the world,” the statement concluded.

Jordan’s policy is consistent, and we will confront every drone or missile that penetrates Jordanian airspace, says FM

Amman: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, stressed on Sunday that Jordan’s policy is consistent, and any drone or missile that violates Jordanian airspace will be confronted to prevent it from causing harm to Jordan and threatening Jordanians.

“It happened in the past that missiles and drones fell on Jordan, and this is a firm policy that anything that poses a threat to Jordan will be confronted, because our priority is to protect Jordan, protect the lives of Jordanians, protect the capabilities of Jordanians, and protect the security and stability of the country,” Safadi said during a local TV’s talk show on Sunday.

He added that an assessment indicated there was a real danger of drones or missiles falling on Jordan, and the Jordan Armed Forces dealt with this danger as required.

He also emphasized that if this danger was coming from Israel, Jordan would take the same action it did, “and this is a position we affirm clearly and explicitly, and we will not
allow anyone to jeopardize the security of Jordan and Jordanians.”

“This is a principled position, and these are measures that we have taken in the past, have taken yesterday, and will take in the future, whether the source of the threat is Israel, Iran, or whoever,” Safadi underlined.

Safadi emphasized that Jordan is a country capable of protecting its interests, as everything that is happening threatens all countries in the region, regional escalation threatens all countries in the region, and the expansion of the war into a regional war threatens all countries in the region.

He said that the continuation of the war on the Gaza Strip will push for the expansion of the war, will push for more tension in the region and will lead to a regional war.

“The challenge now is to prevent further escalation and the burden of this falls on Israel, as the spark for the escalation was the Israeli attack on the Iranian consulate,” Safadi said.

He pointed out that “Iran responded to the Israeli attack that targeted it
s consulate in the Syrian capital Damascus, as Iran launched a drone and missile attack on Israel in an escalation that we had warned about since the beginning of the war on the Gaza Strip.”

He explained that everyone wants to de-escalate, but everyone knows that the only way to de-escalate is to stop the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip and stop all its measures that push the region towards the abyss of regional war.

He noted that Jordan has repeatedly warned that increasing pressure on Israel and changing international public opinion about its aggression on Gaza will make Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu look for a way out to distract attention from what is happening in Gaza.

Gaza Municipality warns of environmental disaster

Gaza: The Gaza Municipality warned of the danger of the Israeli occupation’s continued prevention of its crews from accessing the main landfill in Johar Ad Dik area east of the city and its catastrophic repercussions on the health and environmental conditions in the city.

The occupation has prevented the access of the municipality’s crews to the landfill since the beginning of the aggression on October 7, which caused the accumulation of large quantities in the streets of the city, which reached about 90,000 tons and led to the proliferation of harmful insects and rodents, the spread of diseases, and the worsening of health and environmental conditions in the city, the municipality confirmed in a statement on Sunday.

The municipality added that the lack of fuel needed to provide cleaning services for several months, in addition to the occupation’s destruction of about 125 vehicles of various sizes, especially waste collection vehicles, caused the accumulation of waste in the streets and public places.

The
municipality explained that Johar Ad Dik landfill is the main and only landfill in the city that is qualified to receive waste from the city and receives about 1000 tons of waste from Gaza City, the municipalities of the northern Gaza Strip and the municipalities of Mughraqa, Wadi Gaza, UNRWA Johar Ad Dik.

Gaza Municipality called on all international organizations to urgently intervene and save the health and environmental conditions in the city, pressure the occupation, provide the needs of the municipality, which was destroyed by the occupation, and enable it to provide services to citizens.
