Third South Summit demands that Israel withdraw from the occupied Arab territories

Kampala, Participants in the 3rd South Summit called on the Israeli occupation to withdraw from the occupied Syrian Golan and from all occupied Arab territories, while affirming their complete rejection of all forms of unilateral measures imposed on developing countries.

At the conclusion of their work Monday in the Ugandan capital, Kampala, the summit participants adopted a document in which they called on ‘Israel’, the occupying power, to withdraw from the occupied Syrian Golan and the rest of the occupied Lebanese and Palestinian territories, and to immediately and completely lift the Israeli blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip, which constitutes widespread collective punishment.

They also called for the full and immediate implementation of relevant international resolutions, including the resolutions taken by the United Nations in the wake of the ongoing Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip for the fourth month.

The document called for the complete dismantling and immediate cessation of all illegal
settlement activities in the occupied Syrian Golan and the Palestinian territories, including occupied Jerusalem.

The document called on ‘Israel’ to stop its attacks on Syria as it violates the principles of the United Nations Charter and international law, threatens the lives of civilians, and hinders United Nations humanitarian operations.

The document stressed the categorical rejection of the imposition of laws and regulations with extraterritorial effects and all other forms of coercive economic measures, including unilateral measures, against developing countries.

The participants stressed continuing to work towards achieving a fair economic system in which developing countries have an active role and reforming the financial system in line with the developments and transformations that have occurred on the international scene over the past eight decades.

The Government Communication Forum is part of the general media policy, says Minister

Amman: Communication Minister Muhannad Mubaideen said Tuesday that the Government Communication Forum is part of the general policy for media aims to organise meetings between officials and the media to touch on the challenges public institutions face.

Mubaideen said the Government Communication Forum meetings follow royal directives for officials, decision-makers and experts to meet with the media to address sectoral and service issues, “We believe in the important role of professional and responsible media in accountability and highlighting the shortcomings in institutions.”

At the sixth Forum meeting, Mubaideen said there are directives from the government for the Ministry of Government Communication to be a “bridge for communication with the media and to enhance citizens’ confidence in the official narrative.”

He said Jordan is “steadfast” in calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, preventing the displacement of Gazans and continuing to send relief and humanitarian aid to the people of the enclave.

Mubaideen said, “The Jordanian Hashemite Charitable Organisation (JHCO) is the only body authorised to collect donations, whether cash or in-kind, from entities or individuals and send them to Gaza. Collecting donations must not violate the law.”

He explained that the “tragic” Israeli war on Gaza should not be used for purposes other than “alleviating the suffering of the people of the Strip,” adding that the Lower House approved the draft Social Development Law for the year 2023, which will address issues related to the topic.

Smuggling drugs, weapons across Syrian border is threat to national security, says Foreign Ministry

Amman: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates has confirmed that drug and weapons smuggling across the Syrian border into Jordan is a threat to national security and that Jordan will continue to confront this threat and those behind it.

The ministry’s spokesperson, Sufian Qudah, said that Jordan provided the Syrian government with the names of smugglers and those behind them, as well as the locations of drug manufacturing, storage, and smuggling routes, which are under the control of the Syrian government, but no real action was taken to neutralize this danger. He pointed out that smuggling attempts have seen a dangerous increase.

“Drug and weapons smuggling from Syria to Jordan, which claimed and injured a number of our brave officers, represent a direct threat to Jordan’s security, and it will continue to be confronted with all determination until it is completely defeated,” Qudah said.

Qudah confirmed Jordan’s readiness to continue coordinating with the Syrian government to stop the smuggling a
nd to hold those responsible and their supporters accountable. He expects practical, effective, and rapid measures against them to be taken by Syrian officials.

The ministry’s spokesperson underlined that Jordan, which has hosted more than 1.3 million Syrian brothers and provided them with security, safety, and a decent living, and the world remembers the brave soldiers of the armed forces who embraced thousands of them as they crossed the border fleeing the war, is keen to ensure the security of Syria and the safety of its people in all parts of Syria, especially in the neighboring governorates of Suwaida and Daraa, which have historical brotherly relations with Jordan.

Qudah rejected any insinuations that the Jordanian border was ever a source of a threat to Syria’s security or a passage for terrorists, whom Jordan was the first to confront. Rather, it has always been and will remain an advocate and supporter of Syria and its generous people in the neighboring governorates of Daraa and Suwaida and in all
parts of Syria.

He reaffirmed that Jordan is continuing its efforts to help end the Syrian crisis and reach a political solution that preserves Syria’s security, unity, and sovereignty, and rids it of terrorism, chaos, and drug gangs, and achieves all the aspirations of its people.

Qudah underscored that Jordan is capable of protecting its borders and security from drug and weapons smuggling gangs, and will defeat them and end the danger they pose with the efforts of the brave armed forces and security agencies.
