Ashrawi briefed a Canadian delegation on the latest political developments

Ramallah – Ma’an – A member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, Hanan Ashrawi, on Sunday, a Canadian delegation on the latest political developments, local and regional, and developments on the ground.

The delegation includes a group of academics and specialists who are on a tour aiming to get acquainted with the reality of what is happening on the ground, called ‘Come and See 2019’.

During the meeting held at the organization’s headquarters in Ramallah, Ashrawi gave a detailed explanation of the ongoing Israeli violations of international laws, resolutions and laws, including the continuation by the occupying state of its approach based on ethnic cleansing, apartheid and forced displacement, and its escalation of its illegal colonial settlement project.

She also touched on the dangerous US policies towards the Palestinian issue and its repercussions and its irresponsible effects on the region and the whole world, pointing to the endless partnership and support by the American administration that provides legal, political, financial and military cover to Israel.

Ashrawi urged the guest delegation to press the Canadian government to exercise the necessary political will and take an active and serious role to end the military occupation, to commit Israel to international law and international humanitarian law, to recognize the sovereign and independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, and to recognize the right of the Palestinian people to justice and equality. The rest of the peoples of the world, in particular, their right to freedom and self-determination.

She also presented a detailed explanation of the internal Palestinian situation, including the efforts of the Palestinian leadership to hold legislative and presidential elections, the importance of their success and the provision of appropriate conditions for them by the international community.
