AL AIN: Ankabut, the United Arab Emirates’ advanced national Research and education network, has launched its 2-day Fall Users’ Meeting at the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) campus in Al Ain under the Patronage of Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
In the opening speech, UAEU’s vice chancellor Dr. Abdullah Al Khanbashi said the varsity sees the network as a national platform for academic and scientific researches and initiatives.
Despite the stunning technological advances, he added, we still need to make a lot of effort to reach the digital age. The role Ankabut plays is a major part of these efforts which have to be made collectively.
The theme for the meeting is “Discover Ankabut” and brings together a host of IT professionals, academicians, researchers, administrators as well as officials and representatives of Khalifa University and Abu Dhabi Educational Council (ADEC) Among the speakers at the event were H. David Lambert, President and CEO of Internet2, the advanced networking consortium led by the United States research and education community and Dr. Arif Al Hammadi, President for Khalifa University and other institutions.
Lambert said Ankabut which offers a wide range of services to users outside the U.S, seeks to expand the range of its services targeting researchers and higher education institutions.
Ankabut offers academic institutions connectivity to other education networks around the world. In addition to connecting universities, Ankabut can connect schools and public institutions together across the UAE with an effective cost model. Ankabut also co-operates on a national, GCC, regional and international arena representing the UAE in conferences, exhibitions and forums.
