MUSCAT: The Ministry of Social Development (MoSD) and Oman Oil Company (OOC) on Monday organised a passing-out ceremony for 65 employees of Al Wafa Social Services Centres, who completed a diploma course on rehabilitation of disabled children.
The ceremony was held under the patronage of H E Dr Yahya bin Badr al Maawali, Undersecretary in MoSD.
The two-year programme was conducted in collaboration with Sultan Qaboos University to develop the participants’ academic and practical skills in the field of special education.
The employees will now use the skills learnt to help 2,000 disabled children at Al Wafa centres across the sultanate. “We supported the employees with fully-funded scholarships as part of our Building Capacity Programme, which is designed to offer educational opportunities to the youth and improve skills of the workforce,” said Eng Isam bin Saud al Zadjali, CEO of OOC.
“The scholarships have had a dual impact on both the employees’ careers and the wellbeing of over 2,000 disabled students from across the sultanate.
“We are confident that the training has provided the employees with a solid foundation to empower the children to strive for success, achieve tangible results and integrate with society,” he said.
