Al-Burhan heads to New York for UN General Assembly meetings

Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, Chairman of the military-led Transitional Sovereign Council, departed Khartoum on Wednesday, heading to New York to participate in the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Al-Burhan is scheduled to deliver his speech to the UN General Assembly on September 22.

He will participate in high-level meetings to discuss strengthening multilateral cooperation on various international and regional issues.

In addition, the General Assembly will discuss the food crisis and the climate crisis that is fuelling all other crises in the world such as serious flooding, rising sea levels and dry spells and droughts.

On the side-lines of the 77th session, al-Burhan “will meet with several leaders from different countries and international and regional organizations to discuss ways to enhance bilateral cooperation and multilateral cooperation within the framework of the United Nations to build a more stable future,” said the Sovereign Council.

The head of the sovereign Council was seen off at the Khartoum airport by his deputy Mohamed Hamdan Daglo “Hemetti”.

When al-Burhan travelled for the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II on September 18, Lt Gen Shams al-Din Kabbashi was in his Farwell at Khartoum airport.

Hemetti’s absence triggered rumours that Kabbashi was assigned as the acting head of the Sovereign Council during al-Burhan’s absence.
