AIR INDIA RAISES FREE BAGGAGE ALLOWANCE TO 40KG FOR TICKETS BOOKED THIS MONTH

MUSCAT: India’s national carrier has announced increasing the free baggage allowance for all passengers ¨C adult and child ¨C from the current 30kg to 40kg for all direct and indirect destinations ex-Muscat.

A press release stated that the offer is valid on tickets purchased on or after September 1 until September 30, and for travel during the same period.

The baggage allowance for a passenger travelling from Muscat to, for example Goa, Lucknow or Jaipur, will be valid till his hometown, subject to the condition that he is only transiting via Mumbai or any of the airlines’ other online destinations.

The airlines currently offers 30kg free baggage allowance for every adult or child passenger irrespective of the point of sale or from which direction the journey is originating. Apart from this, Air India also offers 7kg free hand baggage.

The airline’s average excess baggage cost per kilogram is between RO3 to RO4.

“Under this scheme, our passengers will gain up to RO40 in line with their new baggage allowance per ticket,” stated Amreesh Choudhary, country manager, Air India in the release.

With 24 flights a week, the airline said it flies daily to Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai apart from thrice weekly to Hyderabad and Bangalore.
