AHMAD FINDS HIS RHYTHM IN SECOND RACE

It was a seventh-place finish for Ahmad al Harthy in race two of Round 3 of the 2015 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East at Losail International Circuit in Qatar on Saturday.

And at the half-way stage, the experienced Omani racer believes he is improving fast as the season progresses.

The race was won by championship leader and Ahmad’s teammate Clemens Schmid of Al Nabooda Racing with defending champion Zaid Ashkanani finishing second, Fahad Al Gosaibi coming third, Skydive Dubai’s Saeed al Mehairi taking fourth place and his teammate Sheikh Hasher al Maktoum settling for the fifth spot.

Ahmad said, “It was much better today, I had the same pace as the cars ahead of me and was waiting for someone to make a mistake, but everybody ahead of me drove very well. With this performance, I feel more confident in the car and now. Having raced in this car at all of the circuits, I can look forward to the second half of the season.”

Ahmad started well in race two, immediately putting pressure on the front runners, but as the pack piled up at turn one, he was unable to move up the field from his starting position of seventh place.

As the race wore on, he was well in the hunt for a higher finish had ‘luck’ gone his way, as he later claimed.

Ahmad showed his a lot of talent and the importance of his role to Al Nabooda Racing’s chances of winning the overall team title by adding valuable points to the total for the Dubai-based outfit.
