KHARTOUM, The African Development Bank (AfDB) is to extend a grant of 14 million US dollars to Sudan for a solar-powered water pump project of the Ministry of Water Resources, Irrigation and Electricity, says Ministry Undersecretary Musa Omar Abu al-Gasi.
He disclosed this when he chaired here Sunday a meeting with members of an AfDB mission who are currently visiting the country.
He praised the bank’s projects at the local and regional levels, and stressed the ministry’s keenness to develop the country’s irrigation system by using advanced technologies such as the solar-powered pumps.
The Director of the General Administration for Investment, Finance and Contracts at the Ministry, Adel Farah Al-Gasim, said the meeting was informed of the Ministry’s readiness to implement the project during the coming period, explaining that the grant amount of 14 million USD can be increased according to the progress of the project.
He revealed that an agreement on the project would be signed by the Government of Sudan, represented by the Ministry of Finance, with the AfDB in June next year. Al-Gassim pointed out that the ministry planned to implement 15,000 solar pumps in stages in all the states of Sudan.
