ADSSC reviews progress of work in Strategic Tunnel Enhancement Programme

Abu Dhabi: About 21 (51%) out of the 41 kilometer Strategic Tunnel Enhancement Programme (STEP) has been excavated and the third tunnel breakthrough has been successful.

Abdullah Al Ahbabi, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Sewerage Services Company (ADSSC), met the STEP technical committee and management team to the latest achievements on STEP, one of the longest gravity-driven sewerage tunnels in the world.

The company aims to meet the growing sewerage infrastructure demands in Abu Dhabi through its vision, services and strategic plans.

When completed, STEP will be recognized as an efficient, cost-effective and sustainable solution to meet the long-term wastewater collection and conveyance needs of Abu Dhabi Island and mainland. The system will provide for an average wastewater flow of 800,000 cubic metres/day, and will have an ultimate capacity of 1.7 million cubic metres per day by 2030.
