MUSCAT: The National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) has stated that 427,638 tourists including Omanis visited Salalah during the Khareef season from June 21 till September 14.
NCSI figures revealed that Omanis constituted 76 per cent of the visitors while nationals of other GCC countries comprised 16.1 per cent. However, the number of visitors from the GCC countries, including Oman, has registered a 0.4 per cent decline. ‘The number of visitors stands at 393,638 compared to 395,147 recorded over the same period in 2013.’
Meanwhile, the number of visitors from other Arab countries has risen by 51.9 per cent, reaching 7,587 compared to 4,995 recorded last year during the same period. However, visitors from Asian countries have declined by 11.4 per cent. ‘In 2013, as many as 26,270 Asians visited Salalah during this period while this year the number was 23,276.’
Also, the number of European visitors increased by 2.7 per cent reaching 2009 compared to 1956 during the same period last year. From the Americas, the number of visitors has increased by 27 per cent reaching 653 compared to 514 last year while those from Africa dropped by 22.7 per cent – 126 this year compared to 163 in 2013. The total number of visitors from Oceania reached 158 this year compared to 127 in 2013, an increase of 24.4 per cent.
NCSI statistics show that 121,661 visitors took flights to Salalah (105,204 domestic and 16,457 international) while 305,977 drove to the governorate.
