Regent follows up on implementation of Aqaba strategic plan

His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, the Regent, on Saturday chaired a follow-up meeting at the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) to review progress in implementing the Aqaba strategic plan. According to a royal court statement, the Regent listened to a briefing by ASEZA Chief Commissioner Nayef Al Fayez on priorities in the implementation of initiatives, development projects, and tourism activities in the city. Fayez said ASEZA has prepared a plan to activate key focus sectors in Aqaba’s strategy on the medium and long terms, adding that the authority has completed goals in investment promotion and automating services to streamline procedures for visitors and investors. He added that the authority has activated employment and technical training programmes to build the capacities of targeted groups, noting also work on updating Aqaba’s masterplan. The chief commissioner said work is underway on the initial plans to build the Aqaba aquarium, and to continue the process of regulating diving centres and the city’s transportation system. Crown Prince Al Hussein listened to additional briefings from officials on the implementation of the strategic plan.

Canada offers Ukraine $400mln in aid package

Canada announced Saturday its commitment to provide military defence aid to Ukraine worth $400 million. According to the Ukrainian News Agency (Ukrainform), the office of the Canadian Prime Minister said that the defence aid package would include the transfer to Ukraine of 288 AIM-7 missiles for air defence systems. During a visit to troubled Ukraine, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Canada would extend the mandate of the military training mission (Univer) until 2026, within which more than 35,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been trained in the past eight years.

Russia downs two ballistic missiles over Crimea

The Russian military authorities said Saturday that their air defences intercepted two “Grom-2” ballistic missiles launched by Ukrainian forces over the Crimea peninsula without causing injuries or damage. The Russian Ministry of Defence stated: “The air defence forces shot down two ballistic missiles of the Grom-2 type launched by the Ukrainian forces,” explaining that the attack did not result in casualties or injuries, nor did it cause damage.

Cuper announces list of Syrian national football players ahead of Vietnam match

Head coach of the Syrian national football team, Hector Cuper, announced the list Players who will participate in the friendly match with the Vietnam national team in preparation for the Asian cup Finals.

The team’s delegation will head to Vietnam next Sunday morning to conduct a training camp and concludes it with a friendly match with the Vietnam national team. The trip will start on June 12th and ends on the twentieth of it.

Prime Minister inspects implementation of two housing projects for earthquake- affected people in Aleppo

Prime Minister Hussein Arnous visited the sites of two housing projects being implemented at Al-Maasraniya area and Al-Haydariyeh neighborhood in the city of Aleppo, intended for people affected by the earthquake.

Al-Maasraniya housing project, east of Aleppo consists of four lots, including 120 houses to be built on an area of 68 hectares.

While the housing project in the Al-Haydariyeh neighborhood includes four lots in an area of 25,000 square meters.

Syria, Iran discuss bilateral relations

Foreign and Expatriates Minister Fayssal Mikdad and his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amirabdollahian discussed Saturday bilateral relations between Syria and Iran and the positive developments on the Arab and regional arenas.

In a phone conversation, both sides discussed a number of issues of mutual concern and the need to implement bilateral agreements reached during the Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi’s visit to Syria.
