The Chinese Embassy in South Sudan has on Monday launched the second phase of a China-aided technical cooperation education project.

Speaking during the launch of the project in Juba on Tuesday, Hussein Abdelbaggi Akol, South Sudan’s Vice President for Service Cluster, said the cooperation between China and South Sudan will help the exchange of Chinese experience with the country.

“I believe that this technical cooperation in Education will bring the Chinese experience which could be merged into our developing concept for the development of educational innovation,” he said.

For his part, Hua Ning, Chinese Ambassador to South Sudan says they are prioritizing education projects in South Sudan.

”In ten years of our diplomatic relationship, the education sector has always been our priority area for our exchange and cooperation. China has supported the construction of a number of primary and secondary schools in South Sudan, trained over five thousand professionals in various sectors, and provided hundreds of scholarships for students to study in China,” Ambassador Ning said.

The Chinese Embassy in Juba also said it now wants to print textbooks for both primary and secondary schools and supply other scholastic materials soon.

Speaking during the same event, Awut Deng Achuil, the Minister of Education in South Sudan said some schools in South Sudan have started teaching the Chinese language as part of the cooperation between the two nations.

“Actually, implementation has already begun. For example, review of curriculum materials is underway, and teaching of the Chinese language is taking place at Juba Day Secondary School,” Achuil said.

South Sudan’s Ministry of Education says the cooperation between China and South Sudan includes taking teachers from South Sudan to China for training.

No need to panic over new Omicron Covid variant: Presidential adviser

The new Omicron variant of Covid-19 is not wildly different from any other variant, Presidential Adviser for Health and Prevention Affairs Mohamed Awad Tag Eddin said.

During a phone call with “Al-Hadath Al-Youm” satellite TV channel on Monday evening 6/12/2021, Tag Eddin added that “there’s no reason to panic over the new variant,” which has not yet been found to be linked to severe Covid-19 illness.

“The fear and anxiety have gotten totally out of proportion,” he said.

He indicated that “all vaccines are still effective against Covid,” explaining that vaccine effectiveness may just wane by few percentage points in case of mutations or new variants, but they remain effective.

Tag Eddin added the 4th wave of the Covid outbreak is about to reach its peak in Egypt, noting that incidence and fatality rates may continue to rise over the next two or three weeks before they subside.

He also urged citizens to adhere to all anti-Covid precautions and get their vaccine shots, especially in light of the fact that Covid-19 and the seasonal flu share a lot of the same symptoms.
