MUSCAT: Vehicles registered until the end of June this year decreased by 26.1 per cent, according to a bulletin released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
Private vehicles, taxis, motorcycles, diplomatic vehicles and tractors witnessed decrease in registrations.
Registrations for private vehicles decreased by 35.6 per cent in June this year at 34,387 compared to 53,364 last year. Registrations for taxis also decreased by 37.3 per cent this June with 341 against 544 taxis in the same period last year.
Registrations recorded for motorcycles stood at 520, a 21.3 decline compared to last year while the same for diplomatic vehicles witnessed a drop of 26.7 per cent with 33 vehicles registered this June.
New registrations for tractors also declined by 39.7 per cent with 35 tractors.
Registrations recorded for commercial vehicles increased by 5.6 per cent at 11,828 compared to 11,205 last year.
The number of new registrations recorded for rental cars also increased by 35 per cent by the end of June this year with 2,227 vehicles registered compared to 1,650 last year.
The number of vehicles registered by the government also saw a rise of 23.2 per cent by June this year with 1,332 compared to 1,081 during the same period last year.
Registrations for driving school vehicles also rose by 7.6 per cent at 99 compared to 92 registered by June last year.
