UNHCR ready to face emmergency posed by tempest

JANUARY 6, 2015 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON) As the tempest gains momentum over Lebanon, the UNHCR has taken steps to cope with any arising emergency, the high commission for refugees said in its communiqué today.

Over than half a million refugees living at 500 meters above sea level, would be primarily benefitting from blankets and combustible materials like fuel offered by the commission. Up to half a million others plus hosting Lebanese communities would benefit from plastic sheeting and coupons distributed by the commission for this purpose.

UNICEF also disclosed that up to 160 thousand babies would benefit from warm clothes under distribution and that all areas of refugee displacement have been covered thus far. UNHCR spokeswoman Ninette Kelly however acknowledged the gravity of coping satisfactorily with the wide distribution of refugee over more than 1700 communities complicating thus the relief process.

Relief teams working at the limit of exhaustion remain at the ready with the looming tempest, Kelly concluded.
