FEBRUARY 23, 2015 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON) The United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Sigrid Kaag, met today with the Minister of Justice, Ashraf Rifi, and with the Minister of Industry, Hussein Hajj-Hassan respectively.
In both separate meetings, discussions focused on the importance of stability and security for Lebanon and the challenges the Government continues to face in addressing the impact of the Syrian crisis. Noting the role played by the Government of Prime Minister Tamam Salam, the Special Coordinator highlighted the urgency in determining the mechanism to elect a President as soon as possible. The discussions in both meetings also highlighted the importance of Security Council resolution 1701 following the events of recent weeks, the security conditions in country and the assistance provided to refugee and host communities in the context of stabilisation efforts for Lebanon. Other subjects covered the substantive responsibilities of respective Ministries.
