TWO-DAY SEMINAR ON NIZWA’S CULTURAL HISTORY BEGINS

MUSCAT: A two-day seminar, Nizwa in Cultural Memory, began on Wednesday under the patronage of H E Mohammed bin Salim bin Said al Toobi, Minister of Environment and Climate Affairs.

Organised by the committee of the Nizwa Capital of Islamic Culture programme, the seminar is being held at the University of Nizwa.

Twenty one researchers from cultural institutions and scientific and research centres are taking part in the event.

Several papers addressing the culture and civilisation of Nizwa are being presented. Some of the topics are, City of Nizwa as one of the scientific metropolises in the Muslim world, the political stature of Nizwa and its status among travellers, the status of Nizwa in cultural memory, the Al Nizwaniyah cultural institutions and their contribution to the Omani scientific movement, the historical libraries and Nizwa’s cultural presence in the Renaissance era. Dr Nasser al Kindi, chairman of the organising committee, said that the seminar is covering many issues never discussed earlier.
