Barwani wins bronze medal at GCC event, Oman’s Abdullah al Barwani clinched a bronze medal at the GCC U18 Tennis Championship that concluded in Kuwait recently.
Seeded sixth, Barwani beat Kuwait’s Hussein Ali Jamal 6-1, 7-5 in the first round.
He then followed up with an easy win over UAE’s Fahd al Janahi 6-1, 6-1 before losing in the semifinal to Saudi Arabia’s Omar Ahmad 6-1, 3-6, 0-6 and settle for a bronze medal.
Apart from Barwani, the team comprised Younis al Rawahi and Amar al Khanjari. Both players lost in the initial rounds.
Saudi Arabia’s Ammar al Hakbani won the title while his countrymate, Oman Ahmad, won the silver. Barwani and Faisal al Rabdi of Saudi Arabia won the bronze medals.
In the U14 tournament, Oman was represented by Muneer al Rawahi, Eyad al Khanjari, Abdullah al Raisi and Ali al Sarhani.
All four made early exits. Saudi Arabia’s Saoud al Hakbani won the gold while the runner-up was Kuwait’s Issa Kabazard.
Kuwait’s Fahd al Dossari and Rayan al Jufeiri shared the third place.
Taisei bags U14 title at ISC junior meet
Taisei Nishino clinched the boys’ U14 singles title in the ongoing ISC Open junior tennis tournament, organised by the Indian Social Club Muscat. The top seed produced a fine performance in his 6-1, 6-1 win over Eyad al Khanjari in the final.
Other results: Boys’ U12 singles (semifinals): Muneer al Rawahi beat Vivek Kolluru 7-5, 6-1, Ayaan Malhotra beat Sanskar Dubey 7-6, 6-4.
Antar, Hajri enter OAB tennis semis
Drar Antar and Abdulrahman al Hajri made it to the semifinals of the men’s A division singles and men’s B division singles respectively in the ongoing second Oman Arab Bank (OAB) tennis tournament organised by Al Hayat Tennis Centre.
Antar defeated Amr Hassan 6-1, 6-2 while Hajri beat Waleed al Naamani 7-5, 6-4 in the quarterfinals.
