Sohar Club regained the Oman Volleyball Association (OVA) first division league title after defeating defending champion Saham 24-26, 21-25, 25-22, 27-25, 15-11 in a Batinah derby at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex on Sunday.
The title win helped Sohar clinch its seventh league crown and halted the run of four-time champion and arch-rival, Saham, which had won two titles in a row. Seeb holds the record of 12 titles.
Saham claimed the runner-up spot while Seeb took the third place.
Sohar, which had finished third last year, was in a dominant form in the four-team final playoff round that comprised, Saham, Seeb and Ettifaq as it won all the 12 matches in a row to emerge a deserving winner.
The domestic title also confirmed Sohar’s entry into the GCC championship. Sohar last won the title in 2009.
Later, H E Eng Salim bin Mohammed al Nuaimi, Undersecretary for Transport Affairs in the Ministry of Transport and Communications, presented the awards in the presence of Sheikh Badr al Rowas, OVA chairman, and other dignitaries.
