Sleiman: Hezbollah must immediately return from Syria

FEBRUARY 19, 2015 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON) Former president Michel Sleiman on Thursday told “al-Masira” magazine, in an issue to be published tomorrow (Friday), that Hezbollah must immediately return from Syria.

He went on to say that the presidential dossier was “closed” and that there was no looming solution, accusing the Free Patriotic Movement and Hezbollah of standing behind the campaigns leveled against him.

On his dispute with MP Sleiman Franjieh, Sleiman said,” the reason is that I refused conditions demanded by Franjieh before his election as president.”

Asked about why the army did not intervene on May 7, 2008, the former president said that he did not imagine that a Lebanese camp would rise up against another, and that the army could have intervened after two of three days to cut the conflict areas into zones.

“Where can Hezbollah interpret its victory in Lebanon? The solution is to implement Baabda Declaration and through the defense strategy and gearing up the army,” he said.

“We will gear up the army and let them mind their own business,” he struck.

He also clarified that attacking Hezbollah did not aim the party alone, “but it is a message to any new president of the republic,” adding that threat will continue and will even get stronger.

Moreover, he revealed that he would launch in a month or two a “moderate” political movement.
