MUSCAT: Shell Super Mileage Challenge 2015 concluded recently with the winning team showcasing an impressive mileage.
The RQ team of Qasim bin Mohammed bin Said al Farsi and Rami Jamal Ahmed Ismail won the grand prize of Shell Fuel Cards for 2500 litres of Shell Super petrol each after achieving 19.2kmpl in a 2 litre car.
The event was intended to assess the teams’ driving skills, with an emphasis on safe and fuel efficient driving. The 100km, two-stage challenge, extended from North Azaiba Shell Service Station to Oman Dive Centre near Qantab and back. The route had been selected to mirror everyday city-driving conditions – and to demonstrate how simple changes to driving habits, along with the right fuel, can help to reduce fuel consumption and manage motoring costs.
Six competing teams were chosen from over 180 teams who registered online. The participants received general and defensive driving tips from a HSSE expert from Shell Oman.
Speaking on the occasion, Shahad al Wahaibi – retail fuel marketing and brand manager said, “Considering that driving is now evolving beyond a point A to B mindset, we are happy that the Shell Mileage challenge has drawn such attention from the public. With more than twice as many entries as last year as well as the first lady participant, we hope that this year’s event will help reinforce the importance of safe and efficient driving.”
Raj Warrior, Automan’s editor, who was the adjudicator of the event said, “It’s funny how such an important event coincided with Earth Day this year.
“Despite low fuel prices we expect more of Oman’s drivers to pay attention to reducing costs by improving fuel efficiency and do their best to make the change. We’re glad that the winners this year beat our benchmarking team – it is a challenge to us as well.”
