Sami Gemayel following Kataeb meeting: agreement must be over electing president before anything else

FEBRUARY 16, 2015 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON) MP Sami Gemayel on Monday told a news conference held following Kataeb party’s weekly meeting that the sides currently holding dialogue must agree on electing a new president of the republic “before anything else,” reminding that the election mechanism takes place at the Parliament.

“But we moved to agreement which is a rejected process,” he said. “The mechanism of agreeing on a president has failed and this indicates the determination of the foreign countries to interfere in our affairs.”

“The state has become detached from the people because it is not abiding by the democratic rules and it is relinquishing its responsibility towards the Lebanese people, the economic situation, and the election of a president,” he indicated.

“As a bloc, we are ready to go to the Parliament at any time, regardless of the candidates and the identity of the new president,” he said.
