Salma Hayek visits Syrian refugees in Lebanon

APRIL 27, 2015 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON) As a supporter of the “UNICEF” Organization and the co-founder of the international “Chime for Change” Campaign, the Lebanese-Mexican actress Salma Hayek visited on Monday Syrian refugees in Lebanon, and launched “Chime for the Children of Syria” plea to raise funds in support of children and families affected by the Syrian crisis.

Actress Hayek is currently in Lebanon for the release of her animated film “The Prophet” at Beirut Souks cinemas.

“Chime for Change is a global campaign in the aim of fundraising and awareness for girls and women all over the world with a focus on the areas of education, health and justice… The campaign has been set up by Gucci, which is a global partner of UNICEF for a long time,” a press release by UNICEF said.

Hayek visited the Syrian refugees in Lebanon on April 25 to draw attention to the urgent humanitarian needs of children and families whose lives have changed radically due to the conflict in Syria over the past four years.

“I am inspired by the courage of the children of Syrian refugees and their families whom I met in Lebanon… They are still determined to build a better life and future, despite the difficulties and harm they have suffered or witnessed,” Hayek said.
