Salam requests safe passage for rescuing wounded and civilians, Army Commander responds

OCTOBER 26, 2014 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON) “In wake of the many appeals by innocent citizens in Tripoli, who have incurred losses in both their lives and properties as a result of the terrorist practices against their City, Prime Minister Tamam Salam urged Lebanese Army Commander, General Jean Kahwaji, to allow for a safe passage to evacuate the wounded and rescue trapped civilians in Bab Tebbaneh, to which General Kahwaji immediately responded, a statement by PM Salam’s media office indicated on Sunday.

The Prime Minister offered the Army Commander his heartfelt condolences for the officers and soldiers “who fell in the field of honor,” stressing the “political authority’s full support to the Army in its waged battle to eradicate terrorism and restore security and stability to Tripoli and the North, as well as to all Lebanese regions.”

Salam also seized the opportunity to pay tribute to the courageous people of Tripoli, Minnieh and Dinnieh, and the remaining regions of the North, for their patience and tolerance amidst the difficult circumstances they are enduring.

“The government will not fail in its duties towards those affected, and shall cater to them immediately once this cruel national battle waged in defense of all the Lebanese subsides,” concluded the statement.
