Salam: crisis in Tripoli nearing its end

OCTOBER 27, 2014 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON) Prime Minister Tammam Salam said on Monday that the crisis in Tripoli is coming to an end, since the army has advanced remarkably to ensure the security and stability of the northern city.

Speaking from aboard a jet taking him on an official visit to Berlin, Salam assured that the decision to confront terrorism has been taken, refusing any step backwards in this context.

“We are determined to impose security and stability,” he proclaimed, welcoming in this context popular positions in favour of the Lebanese army and security forces.

Salam stressed the importance of unity on the domestic scene to fend off terrorist projects, aiming at sowing chaos and division among the Lebanese.

In response to a question about military hostages, the Prime Minister said that efforts were ongoing, again recalling that the case was complicated, given the terrorist nature of the opposing party.
