Salam convenes with top officials in Munich

FEBRUARY 8, 2015 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON) Prime Minister Tammam Salam met with several foreign officials, during his visit to Germany’s Munich where he took part in a conference about security.

Salam discussed with Foreign Minister of France, Laurent Fabius, developments on the local and regional scene.

Later, he met with Iranian Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, with whom he tackled bilateral relations. Salam asked Zarif for Iran’s aid in facilitating the election of a new president for Lebanon, in the same manner that the Islamic Republic helped in forming Lebanon’s coalition government.

For his part, the Iranian official expressed his country’s commitment to the election of a president, noting that Iran supported any agreement between Lebanese protagonists, especially Christians.

In addition, Salam met with Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, who welcomed the ongoing dialogue in Lebanon, aimed at achieving positive change in the political climate.

The Prime Minister also met with the UAE Foreign Minister, Abdullah bin Zayed, who expressed his country’s dedication to the security and stability of Lebanon.

Before heading back to Beirut, Salam also convened with the Prime Minister of Egypt, the Iraqi Prime Minister, the Norwegian Foreign Minister and President of Iraqi Kurdistan, Massoud Barazani. Talks with all officials zeroed in on efforts to combat terrorism and anchor stability on the Lebanese scene.
