Rai in Easter message calls upon political blocs to elect new President

APRIL 4, 2015 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON) Maronite Patriarch Mar Bechara Rai appealed to the consciences of all political parties and deputies and called upon them to elect a new president, saying that there is no constitutional justification to boycott the parliament’s sessions to elect a new president and end power void.

“Today, we experience in Lebanon a kind of political death that controls our destiny as a people as well as the fate of the state. There is no constitutional justification neither to boycott the presidential sessions nor to delay from taking any practical initiative to exit the power void, as if everyone is now waiting for foreign password,” Rai said in his Easter to the Lebanese in general and to the Christians in specific.

Rai also asked the international community “to find peaceful, political and diplomatic means to stop wars and secure the return of the displaced to their homes.”
