Rai: Christians should help Muslims confront terrorists

OCTOBER 28, 2014 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON) Maronite Patriarch Mar Bechara Rai and the accompanying delegation visited on Tuesday morning the state of Victoria in Australia, particularly Victoria’s Parliament, where the Lebanese Consul Ghassan Khatib and head of the Australian Lebanese Chamber of Commerce held a lunch banquet, in the presence of dignitaries’ and representatives of March 8 and 14.

“We are aware that those who are carrying out terrorist acts are not all Muslims, but the strategy aimed at distorting Islam,” Rai confirmed during the lunch, pressing “Christians to help Muslims in a bid to confront together terrorists.”

Rai stressed that terrorist acts carried out by some groups in the name of Islam were not related to Islam and Muslims, “but were the result of regional and international interests.”

The patriarch thanked Australia for all that it had offered to all Lebanese on its territory, praising its supportive role in fighting terrorism through its participation in the international coalition.

“Australia as well helped Christians to continue their presence in the Middle East and helped the refugees who were expelled from their homes,” Rai said.
