APRIL 17, 2015 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON) Lebanese Army Chief, General Jean Qahwaji, on Friday inspected the military units deployed along the southern borders in Marjeioun region and its vicinity, and took note of the defensive and security measures adopted to face any likely Israeli hostility and to preserve stability in the border regions.
During his tour and meetings with officers and the brass, Qahwaji highlighted the necessity of cooperation and coordination between the Lebanese Armed Forces and the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, in application of UN resolution 1701.
“The current critical juncture in the country and the regional events requires army’s vigilance,” he said.
“The army today has become stronger than any other time, amid the national consensus over it, and the consecutive achievements scored on the level of fighting terrorist cells and groups along the eastern borders and in the inside.
He also indicated that the workshop to train and gear up the Lebanese army by the help of friendly states proved the confidence of the international community in the Lebanese military and its fighting powers.
“Stability in Lebanon constitutes a top priority for the army, which shall remain the backbone and the security valve of Lebanon, come what may,” he concluded.
