Pharaon says today’s Cabinet session should focus on waste problem

July 30, 2015 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON) Tourism Minister Michel Pharaon said in a statement on Thursday that the waste crisis is now affecting the social, health and environmental security, asking “to center in today’s Cabinet session on ways to resolve the waste dilemma and the transfer of Sukumi plant from Karanteena”.

The minister said that Beirut receives people from different Lebanese regions who own vast tracts where landfills could be established on condition to meet the global technical level and respect the different environmental conditions.

The statement added “treatment and plants as well as incinerators should be near the landfills to have a comprehensive treatment similar to civilized countries”.
