Pharaon from Spain calls for better tourism policies

JANUARY 30, 2015 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON) Tourism Minister Michel Pharaon wrapped up his visit to Spain on Friday whereby he partook in the 2015 FITUR Tourism Fair in Madrid, and called for drawing better tourism policies that can invigorate said industry in Mediterranean countries.

Pharaon held various meetings with Spanish officials and tourism ministers from the USA, Africa and the Mediterranean.

Spain’s Foreign Ministry held a luncheon in honour of the fair’s participants. Discussions focused among the officials on means of bolstering eco-tourism among various countries. On that note, Iraq’s Minister of Tourism invited Pharaon on an official visit to his country upcoming March.

“Lebanon is highly concerned with fortifying economic and touristic ties with African countries, particularly where large Lebanese communities reside,” said Pharaon.

The Minister urged the officials to pay extra attention to the Phoenician Road, which passes through Spain.

“There are terrorist forces bent on destroying democratic life, while there are civil society forces working on activating tourism, freedom and democracy.”

Pharaon asserted that the situation in south Lebanon was stable thanks to international stances and a domestic will that allowed for the development of tourism.
