Pharaon: Exporting waste is still studying

July 31, 2015 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON) Tourism Minister Michel Pharaon said Friday that Lebanon is experiencing an ’emergency situation’ at the level of the Presidency, the Parliament and more recently the government.

“But the first emergency at present, concerns the waste crisis that requires immediate temporary solution, followed by another final one,” he said.

“We asked the ministerial committee to study the option of exporting the waste and we will address this issue with the Municipality of Beirut, the Mohafez and relevant ministries,” he added, stressing that this option does not replace the need to search landfills that meet the environmental conditions and the “final solution must include the relocation of waste treatment plants that are in Quarantina.”
