Paoli chairs ceremony to honor French military martyrs

OCTOBER 23, 2014 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON) French Ambassador to Lebanon Patrice Paoli, chaired on Thursday a celebration to commemorate the French military martyrs who died on October 23 in 1983, in the attack that targeted the headquarters of French paratroopers, in front of the monument at the Palais des Congres.

Lebanese Army Commander Representative partook in the commemoration along with a crowd of U.S., Italian, Bitish, UN and French officials.

In his word delivered on the occasion, Paoli said that “we are here today to commemorate the French soldiers who fell for peace in Lebanon in October 1983 in Beirut.”

Following a brief on historic events, Paoli stressed that today, France shall still be present to protect peace by sending around 850 soldiers to operate within the UNIFIL.

“Being present side-by-side other countries operating within the UNIFIL is a necessity to help the LAF and enable it to preserve peace across Lebanon where certain regions have been witnessing tough security situation,” he said.
