OVER 3,800 PACKS OF TOBACCO PRODUCTS SEIZED

MUSCAT: Coordinated action by the Public Authority for Consumer Protection (PACP) and the ROP has led to the arrest of a group of expats and seizure of large quantities of smoking and chewing tobacco and banned cigarettes. A raid was conducted following complaints that the group was operating out of an apartment in Rusayl.

As many as 3,883 packs of smoking and chewing tobacco being sold illegally were confiscated. These included cigarette brands banned in the sultanate, a press release said.

It was found that the products were transported in a garbage truck and hidden in dumpsters from where they were picked up for sale.

Ibrahim al Ghafri, manager of PACP Seeb office said the authority regularly monitors the markets for banned and harmful products.
