Torsten Spittler has joined the technical division of the Oman Football Association (OFA) as the national body’s talent development and performance expert.

The expert has been roped in by the OFA with the aim of ‘achieving high-performance outcome for youth players and coaches’.

Torsten, who will report to the OFA’s technical director, Jim Selby, is experienced in his field and was recommended to the OFA by the German Football Association (DFB) as part of the ongoing relationship between the two associations.

Selby said, “Torsten will be helping build the base from which our development structures will grow. His role is also to deliver a legacy for Omani staff to take the programmes into the future.”

Oman U16s advance

Oman and Kyrgyzstan qualified for the AFC U16 Championship from Group B after the Asian Football Confederation excluded Nepal from the competition after it was found to have fielded an ineligible player (in violation of age limit) during the qualifiers.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the AFC’s disciplinary committee in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia recently. The AFC U16 Championship will be played in India next year.

Oman, Jordan and Kyrgyzstan have each been awarded 3-0 wins, which eventually helped Oman qualify from its group.
