Official tells Salam WB expected to double investments in Lebanon

APRIL 28, 2015 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON) Prime Minister Tammam Salam on Tuesday met at the Grand Serail with Deputy Head of the World Bank Group, Hafez Ghanem, accompanied by the Regional Director of the MENA region, Farid Belhadj.

Speaking to reporters following the meeting, Ghanem said that talks with the Prime Minister touched on the array of the World Bank in Lebanon.

“We are convinced of the necessity to help Lebanon as much as possible, and we would like to increase our investments and aids for Lebanon, especially amid the current difficult juncture,” Ghanem indicated.

“I informed the Prime Minister about the WB’s current projects in Lebanon. The problem is that we could not execute half of these projects, which amount to USD 550 million, because they requires the approval of the Parliament,” he explained.

“I discussed with the Prime Minister the means to find a solution to obtain the Parliament’s approval so as we carry out those projects in addition to new ones as well,” he added.

“We expect the multiplication of the WB investments in Lebanon during the upcoming four years. They are all projects vital to the infra-structure and to helping the most deprived regions in the country,” he pointed out.
