MUSCAT: The Environment Society of Oman (ESO) and the Nama Group have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to set up an office for the society in Dhofar governorate and to fund a project to boost afforestation efforts in the governorate.

The MoU, worth RO45,900 was signed by Eng Omar al Wahaibi, CEO, Nama Group, and H H Sayyida Tania al Said, president, ESO.

The agreement is one among the many signed by Nama Group as part of its sustainability strategy, that aims to enhance the development of cultural, economic and environmental aspects of sultanate.

Eng Omar al Wahaibi said, “At Nama Group, we support programmes and organisations that contribute to the environment, which we believe is a shared responsibility of everyone to preserve and protect. “Our partnership today with ESO is a reinforcement of our sustainability value and through this agreement we aim to take a step forward in preserving the environment in Dhofar governorate.”

Speaking about the signing of the pact, Sayyida Tania said, “We are very enthusiastic about this partnership with Nama Group, which showcases the group’s dedication to preserving the environment and doing its part in the shared responsibility to preserve Oman and its environment”

The new branch of the society in Dhofar governorate will be the basis for many more sustainable environmental and educational programmes in the governorate. The office will also provide employment opportunities to Omanis and will train them in volunteerism and environmental protection.
