Muscat will host the Group A qualifiers of the AFC U23 Championship from March 23-31, according to a press release from the Oman Football Association (OFA).

Oman, which has been placed in a tough group that includes reigning champion Iraq, Bahrain, Lebanon and Maldives, will host all the matches at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex. The home team opens its campaign against Bahrain on March 23 and then plays against Lebanon (March 27), Maldives (March 29) and Iraq (March 31).

The winner of the Oman leg, along with the toppers of nine other groups as well as five best runner-up sides, will make it to the AFC U23 Championship, which will be hosted by Qatar in January next year.

The AFC U23 Championship will serve as the qualifying event for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil with three places up for grabs.

Fixtures: March 23: Bahrain vs Oman (5.30pm), Maldives vs Lebanon (8.30pm); March 25: Lebanon vs Iraq (5.30pm), Maldives vs Bahrain (8.30); March 27: Iraq vs Maldives (5.30pm), Oman vs Lebanon (8.30pm); March 29: Oman vs Maldives (5.30pm), Bahrain vs Iraq (8.30pm); March 31: Lebanon vs Bahrain (5.30pm), Oman vs Iraq (8.30pm).
