MUSCAT, SALALAH AIRPORTS REGISTER TRAFFIC GROWTH

MUSCAT: The total passenger traffic – transit and transfers – through Muscat International Airport and Salalah Airport has increased by nine per cent and 13 per cent respectively.

At Muscat airport, the number of passengers reached 2.41mn till March this year compared to 2.21mn for the same period of 2014. Statistics released by the Public Authority for Civil Aviation show an increase in arrivals by nine per cent to reach 1.22mn until March this year compared to 1.11mn for the same period of 2014. The number of departing passengers has also increased by eight per cent to reach 1.17mn until March this year compared to 1.08mn for the same period of 2014.

The increase in arrivals and departures is attributed to increase in flights operated by airlines such FlyDubai, Emirates and Air Arabia.

In terms of air cargo traffic, statistics show that the total loaded and unloaded freight increased by eight per cent reaching 32,165 tonnes compared to 29,701 tonnes in the same period of 2014.

At Salalah Airport, the total number of arriving and departing passengers reached 217,669 until March 2014 compared to 193,383 during the same period of 2014.

Meanwhile, the cargo traffic decreased by 21 per cent until March this year (336 tonnes) compared to 407 tonnes in the same period of 2014.
