MUSCAT: An electronic payment system for companies seeking employee clearance from the Ministry of Manpower (MoM) will come into place from August 23 after a pilot project on the facility was met with success.

“Under the pilot project, only five Green Card companies were extended the facility,”Asila Mohammed al Kalbany, director of MoM’s Information Systems and Internet Application Department told Muscat Daily.

Green Card companies are those having total compliance with MoM’s regulations and have never been on the defaulters’ list. Asila said that after receiving feedback and ironing out glitches, the facility will now be extended to other companies too.

“This is to make the (employee) clearance process faster and reduce paperwork. We hope that this initiative will reduce crowding of ministry offices for even small paperwork.” This facility is an extension of MoM’s service of receiving clearance applications online.

“Earlier, employers had to visit the ministry’s offices with documents of the person for clearance. Now, they can send us the scanned documents online. But, they still had to visit the ministry offices to make payment. With the introduction of this facility, the entire clearance process will become online,” Asila said.
