Mohammed Mashnouk: We are to set national strategy for sustainable development

APRIL 16, 2015 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON) Environment Minister, Mohammed Mashnouk announced that PM Tammam Salam and the cabinet are about to set a national strategy for sustainable development which aims at achieving many goals, to name is to secure a human capital capable and compatible in the science and technology fields.

Mashnouk was speaking on behalf of PM Tammam Salam, whom he was representing at the opening of the 21 Annual International Scientific Conference “2020 Horizons: Technology and Scientific Advancement,” which was organized by The Lebanese Association for the Advancement of Science (LAAS) and Saint Joseph University (USJ) to mark the USJ’s 140 anniversary celebration at USJ Medical and Human Sciences Campus in the presence of many official and social dignitaries.

It is to note that the International Scientific Conference is a forum that allows researchers to present and discuss the results of their researches in various fields of science and education.

Machnouk highlighted the goals of the conference, saying that “Horizon 2020” is an international initiative that aims at eliminating concerns and achieving cooperation among the private sector, academia and concerned ministries in order to develop the capabilities of the countries involved in the fields research and scientific advances.

“Our mission is difficult and contains a lot of challenges, especially in our developing countries,” Mashnouk said, adding “We are aware that we must build our economy by developing our natural resources not abusing them in order to protect the rights and quality of the coming generations.”

The Minister concluded by praising the efforts exerted to organize the said conference, wishing it would be fruitful.
